Accussed of rape by wife on spouse visa

I am writing of behalf of someone else, and seeking the best advice for him as he is not best placed to convey this.

He arrived back from a business trip only to find the police waiting for him at Heathrow. The police explained that his wife accussed him of rape that allegedly took place 2 days before the business trip.

They interviewed him, he used a duty solicitor. They released him on bail until January, they kept his phone.

His wife is on a spouse visa, she is from the sub continent. They have a 3 year old child that is British (right of abode). It's really strange as everything was fine before he went away a week ago. In the time he was away the wife went away from the home to her sister's place. We suspect this is a ploy to get some sort of indefinite leave to remain status. She left the house and is staying with her sister.

I can see that she is very active on whatsapp.

I'm just wondering how do you go about getting a solicitor for this. I mean, how do you know who is good or bad. He lives in London.

Any help or advice is welcome in this very stressful time for all involved.

If you browse this thread a little more you will find a stickied thread that is devoted to solicitor recommendations. Tell your friend to shop around a bit too as there are lots of specialists in the London area. He needs someone he feels comfortable with as much as he needs a specialist.

Please encourage him to register here when he can, but it's good he has a friend in you. Feel free to come back often.

Thanks everyone for responses and suggestions. Friend is British citizen working minimum wage job so LA solicitor is only option.

I've had a look at the specialist sols thread. It seems only options for London are Riz at Arcadian or Freemans? do they both do legal aid. Any other London options that I may have missed.

Freemans solicitors in my view (I've been working on false legations for over 14 years) is the best LA in the SE area, with Harvey Fox being the "go-to" duty solicitor.

Riz is the man to go to, you won't regret it. Best in London imo and that of others who have used him.

Alternatively there is a guy called Sean Murphy at Edwards Duthie who is also very very good.

I am not a big fan of using 'mega firms' where you are a very small piece of their big jigsaw. I prefer using a niche place, who can give me the time and resources to treat my case with more care.
