  • How long was your bail or ongoing bail?

I'm particularly interested in non-historic sexual assault allegations (rather than consent and false rape cries), where no property or electronics were seized and no DNA was taken.

I can't sit still as OH is approaching 3.5 months of total bail time and not a peep from the police.

We have had members who got their decision within weeks and we have had some who have waited in advance of two years.

Unfortunately, knowing what others have waited will give you no indication of your own bail time...there are so many factors from the complexity of the case, the area, the investigating police force and officers and their current workload, how pressing they consider the case...

More often than not with long bail times , it doesn't mean that the police are constantly digging or working on trying to get evidence. There can be months and months of the file sitting doing sod all as they are just waiting for one signature from a higher officer or one statement to be gathered or one piece of forensics to come back.

It's hard but try not to dwell too much on the time it takes, the wait is like complete torture but isn't necessarily an indicator of the end result. NFAs have come after two years. So have charges.

If you have a solicitor, you can ask them to contact the police force for an update but often there will be an undetailed response.
