  • What happens next?

    Hi folks,
I was arrested Sat 20th Feb after being accused of rape,
    What happens next?
I gave a statement with a duty solicitor and then given bail till April!
They took clothing and my mobile phone!

I can't sleep, eat, feeling sick all the time and havnt left the house...bedroom should I say! My family are all worried sick as well!

Can anyone give me a sort of timeline on what to expect please? Thanks

Hi Ken, I'm sorry to hear whats happened to you pal, but this is the right place for good advice at the very least!
Ok so the police have had an accusation of rape against yourself, and they are duty bound to investigate it!
There are a whole lot of variables to what happens next....but ultimately they will need to do an investigation...so they speak to the accuser, you, any witnesses etc
They will then more than likely send your case to the CPS.
This seems to be the norm now, so dont think you are being singled out if this happens!

I'm afraid to say, you 'could' have a long wait on your hands!

The positives are you said youre family are worrying like mad (understandable) but at the very least you have some support there!

You also have many, many people on this forum who have either been...or are going through the same situation!

Best wishes pal and it's important to stay strong!

      Appreciate the reply pal!
I'm just very shocked at the allegation. I just don't have a clue what's happening, the only thing I know of is I'm waiting on a letter from my solicitor... and waiting for bail date! I don't really wanna talk to family at the moment as I don't want them to worry anymore than they are after seeing some of the waiting times on bail etc,
I've been constantly looking on here and what a great site!

If there is one piece of advice I would offer, don't assume anything!
What I mean is if you read something on here, and its a little like your story, dont assume the same will happen to you!
Just try and stay calm, and try and exercise if you can it will help!

Under no circumstances do you ever trust the police in this situation!
They initially phoned me to come and have an informal chat at the station...and when i got there, they slapped a rape charge on me!!!'
Absolute set of b@stards if you'll excuse my French!

        Hold tight fella

the CPS will have put the allegation to u and listened to what u have said in response.

they will now consider ur responses and probably send the case for further investigation, or consideration to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Depending on how things go from there, you should try to get hold of a decent solicitor ( lots recommended on this website ) and work from there.

don't hide, and most importantly remember, you are not alone

            Hi mate,

A unfortunate welcome to the thread!

You're going to find some amazing support and guidance here on day to day issues and worries you will have. Also on what to come.

In my case, it's been closer to 12 months than it has since I've had a good night's sleep since I was voluntarily invited in, given a nice hotel room, (heating wasn't up high enough and the food was substandard for the establishment) but the staff where more than happy to show me around the facilities and even poke me in the mouth with a cotton bud! Customer service eh

Everyone's scenario is different, some people are NFA'd within a couple weeks, some chared in the same time frame. Others wait months to hear anything and sometimes it's good, others it's bad.

The key thing to do is to start gathering everything you can in your defence, make back ups of backups and then make another back up. Get your support network close then keep them close ! Do not be afraid to have a bad day and just want to stay in doors or in bed, and don't be afraid to go and socialise.

            Moreover, do not loose faith!

            We're here for you mate,

            All the best.

            Joe.

Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately, these types of things can take quite some time before there is an outcome which I know you probably didn't want to hear that. There isn't much you can do now. It's just a waiting game while they do their investigation but you can start to prepare by looking for good solicitor should you need one and doing a timeline to try and identify why your accuser has made a false allegation against you. Hopefully you won't need it but it's good to have!!
