I believe they could lead evidence as to 'distress in the immediate aftermath'...

Other than that actual 'evidence' would need to be at the time of offence or in some manner directly related to the offence. It gets incredibly complex and is a gigantic can of worms trying to nail down as an effective answer in a couple of paragraphs on a forum.
      Wow... A signature option!

If this is evidence of 'recent complaint' - the accuser told them immediately after or soon after the alleged assault(s) then this is valid evidence. If the evidence is inconsistent then of course this would assist the defence case.

            Same as above.
My wife went to see her family member around 6 hours later without emotions
I wrote to the police something extremely important a week after.
Her family member has been questioned 11 days later and the judge took it into
            account.
All the time the judge checked the amount of time between the fact and the reaction.
So a family member for the prosecution and I would suggest time.
If someone became suddenly a witness months after it might seem a bit strange?
            As stated by RF.
            Non,je ne regrette rien.

As to whether a case will proceed without a complainant really depends on the circumstances. Some will proceed as we know and some won't. Nobody here can say either way in this one as nobody knows the whole case inside out.
