  • Facing accusation of Rape- at a loss about what to do

Hi everyone, at a complete loss at what to do. I have found out the police are investigating me for an allegation made by an ex-girlfriend and likely want to speak to me soon. Could someone point me in the right direction? I have spoken to a solicitor who is finding out who the officer in charge is so we can make arrangements. Is it important at this stage to find "the best solicitor" possible? The one I spoke to seems really nice and believes me completely. Since he already knows my side I was thinking that it would be good to keep him for the interview but then perhaps move to another solicitor once I've had the interview for the pre-charge work depending on what happens? I don't want to make any mistakes and want to make sure that I get the best support. I have spoken to Olliers and RIchard Nelson and they both seem good. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I'm really not sure and I'm just quite lost at the moment. Please could someone advise me what to do/ any recommendations for solicitors to talk to? There are so many different options and I'm not sure how I go about this!

    Thanks.

Hello Anon, welcome to the forum, although as always, I am sorry you need to be here.

It sounds like you are doing the right thing and involving a solicitor from the very beginning although I must say it's odd for a suspect to be contacting the police and not vice versa. If your ex is yet to make a statement then there should be no need to interview you.

Our recommended solicitors thread is in the useful information section, there are a few that come highly recommended from multiple satisfied clients. there may be one that can cover your area :

However, if you are happy with the one you have spoken to and have confidence in them then don't feel you have to change.

As this involves an ex, preserving any texts, emails etc may be useful as will making a timeline of events for your solicitor.

Casehardened's post, What happens now is a good place to start for more advice :

Feel free to ask any questions.

The forum isn't so busy these days and you may find more immediate advice on other forums, (also in the useful info section) just beware that not all advice is good advice!

Keep cool, 90% of these allegations do not go any further than a police interview.
