  • The art of being happy

Unfortunately, modern man is often a stagnant man. Among young people there is an unusual epidemic of depression, complaining and ubiquitous sadness. The media constantly hear about wars, disasters, unemployment and hard times.

In the very psychology, articles about illnesses, depression, sadness, anxiety, anger, feeling of guilt, etc., there is much more than those treating about joy, courage, perseverance, faith or responsibility. Why is this happening?

Poles indeed tend to complain, but so far even contemporary psychology has focused on pathology, disease model and negative aspects of life.

An alternative to it can be positive psychology, which focuses on human strengths and is a force for understanding and nurturing the highest values of personal and civic life. The helplessness, victimization, permanent malaise or blaming others are not constructive methods of combating stress.

A wonderful set of human strengths protects from sadness, somatic symptoms or mental illness: optimism, hope, courage, the ability to live with others, kindness, sensitivity, work ethics, faith, responsibility, future orientation, understanding and honesty.

People very often ask how to be happy. Is happiness a source of life's success, or is it rather a source of happiness? What does mental wellbeing depend on? In psychology, there are two perspectives of looking at happiness.

The down-to-earth approach - assumes that life satisfaction is the sum of partial satisfactions derived from important aspects of life, e.g. career, material situation, interpersonal relations, etc.
Up-to-bottom approach - assumes that the more happy you are, the more you look through pink glasses, i.e. the more satisfying are trivial matters, things and situations that less cheerful people tend to complain about.

Positive thinking is the resultant of information from the outside world, previous life experiences, interpretations of events, and the information you get about yourself from those around you. The more positive information about yourself, the greater your self-confidence, sense of competence and better results.

Hope for success adds strength, motivates to fight and reduces the tension associated with the challenge. The attitude of thoughts towards positive paths puts a person in a positive mood. Optimism and enthusiasm are associated with the body's secretion of the so-called happiness hormones - endorphins, which stimulate.

The family atmosphere, at work, at home, in the backyard, has a significant impact on the quality of people's actions, as well as on their physical health. If there are constant quarrels, rasps, tensions, rush, competition at work - stress is given to everyone, motivation to work and satisfaction with the results decreases. It is therefore worth taking care to create a climate of hope, support, faith and understanding around you.

To be kind and nice to others. To react calmly to outbursts of anger. Smile to others. Goodness always comes back with double the strength. It is worth infecting people around you with optimism. Against sorrows, worries, and complaining, "heavy cannons" of positive thinking should be brought.

Is positive thinking possible in difficult situations? How to enjoy life when so many problems and worries? It is impossible to avoid experiencing pain, suffering, loss or illness.

No matter how much you believe in the saying: "What doesn't kill me will make me stronger", unpleasant events always leave their mark on the psyche. Positive thinking is not an escape from suffering or cheating yourself and others that pain does not exist.

The world is not only about pleasures. The true value of life is the ability to agree and accept also the experience of difficulty. The only important thing is not to contemplate suffering for too long, not to wander around with your pain, not to infect others with your malcontent. Positive thinking is the ability to draw conclusions from every situation, even the best one. Many negative experiences can be the nucleus of a change of direction, can motivate to better life choices.

The feeling of satisfaction from life depends on whether even the smallest positive can be found in every situation. How to enjoy life?

Smile to others, even if you don't feel like it! You will notice that others are also becoming nicer and cheerful.
Don't run away from criticism, but use it for what you can improve.
Avoid people who complain all the time. For the easiest thing to do is to blame others for your failures.
Be open to change, be brave, don't be afraid to take risks.
When you are unpleasant, always ask: "What is good about this situation? What conclusions can I use for the future? What has this situation taught me?"
Avoid valuing others in a negative way. Use acceptance language.
Before bedtime, write down the 40 positives you have experienced on that day. Knowing that you are going to do this exercise in the evening will make you focus on finding nice experiences, emotions and situations during the day.
