  • It happened to me.

Posted on old forum on April 02, 2003 at 14:34:23

When i was 11 it happened to me.
It felt as though something had been carved out me and filled with so much hate and rage and violence, and that still hasn't changed.
I regularly beat things up, along with the occasional but very rare person. That is my reputation, and one i'm not proud of.
I'm 16 now, and i can understand the happenings of what happens in court, the trial and the allegations, and all i can say is that i think it's pathetic that criminals have to blag their way out of jail by trying to focus the blame on the victim.
Worse, i think that their lawyers, those hard-working, solid individuals who work their guts out to free rapists and sex offenders must have a screw loose, possibly more loose than their clients'.
I wanted to be a public defender, but seeing the way PD's have to treat the witnesses on the stand in these cases, i don't think i'd have the strength to come through the trial.
My case came to light three months after the attack. I had the standard tests, the interview with the police, and as they thought i was too young to go on the stand, i had to make a video to be played in court.
I would have preferred standing up there and letting them take pot shots at me, so i could have had the dignity to fight for what was mine, what i lost, and more importantly, so that i could stand up to him, look him in the eye, and show him that he could never hurt me again.
I regret not being able to do that.
But the disgrace was, that all he got was five years on the Sex Offenders Register and two years in prison, of which he didn't serve six months before he was back out.
The laws and trials have to change. If they don't, the streets are going to be overrun with sex offenders and rapists before you know it.
I will give my support with anything. Write letters, protests, anything, just so that i can be sure i've done something to help people who have been in the same situation as myself.
