  • Review of how rape and sexual assault cases are handle

    Hi

There is currently a review of how rape and sexual assault cases are handle here in Northern Ireland. It is be run by the ex chief justice of Northern Ireland Sir John Gillen. I have attached the Terms of Reference for his review to this message.

I would like to hear peoples opinions on what he is to cover and how you think the system could be improved. if you have any articles or reports to support your opinion that would be good.

I plan to write to him about my experience and how slow and biased the system is. I am already annoyed by the fact that the "complainants" are called "victims" automatically. Sir John has however suggest the both the accused and accuser are kept anonymous with cases held behind closed doors. Here is a link to an article from the bbc

The fact that Sir John has said that he has spoken to victims of FA's is a good starting point but unless we re-enforce this then the "victim" message will be all he hears from now on.

    Cheers
