  • Ryan Oldfield Suffered An Injustice By The Criminal Justice System

In November 2010 Ryan Oldfield was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months imprisonment for sexual assault to which he has always maintained his innocence. He was advised by his former barrister that there was no evidence to support his account of events and therefore a plea of guilty would be the best option to lesser any possible sentence after a trial. Ryan was refused the opportunity to plead "Not Guilty" and therefore clear his name and prove his innocence when with held evidence came to light.

Since Ryan's plea, evidence has come to light to support Ryan's account of events and the police officer involved in the case has resigned amid allegations of an affair with a victim and since been arrested on suspicion of "misconduct in a public office" raising questions as to what involvement he had in both Ryan's arrest and the with holding of evidence to support Ryan's defence. Once this evidence was raised Ryan sought to change both his representation and his plea.

The former officers cases are currently under review and had Ryan been given the opportunity to plead "Not Guilty" this case would also have been under review and two similar cases involving the former officer have since been thrown out of court due to his involvement and questions being raised over the evidence presented.

This petition is to raise awareness that Ryan should be given the opportunity to clear his name. His case is currently being reviewed by both the CPS and Crown Court legal system regarding an appeal. Ryan’s new legal team intend to pursue this case to the High Court if necessary in order to receive true justice.
