Directions
Where Things are Happening Throughout the day
From the church to the recpetion hall/town centre
After the church service, we are unable to provide transport for everyone to the reception hall (or into town), however it is only a 20 minute walk if you are feeling fit and its a nice day, or you can get a taxi. Comprehensive written directions and a map to get to the working men's club or the town centre are available.
They will also be available from The ushers or Jude on the day, just ask them.
Where Everything Is
There is a map of Coventry city centre showing approximate locations of everything. For more detail, use the links below.
They all link to Multimap.co.uk. If this does not work, try using Streetmap.co.uk where we're afraid you'll have to enter all the locations yourself :-(
The reception hall (Coventry working men's club, Whitefriars lane, CV1 2DT) Bramble Street is in the top right corner of the map.
The church (Sacred Heart RC church, Harefield road) Follow Walsgrave road 4 squares west and 1 south and you will find Bramble Street.
Park road (Where a lot of the guest houses are.) Whitefriars lane (reception hall) is just off the top right corner of the map. The railway station is in the bottom left corner of the map.
Coventry city centre Bramble street is 1 square east
The railway station. This is to the south of the city centre (1 square) and to the west of Bramble street (also 1 square)
Pool meadow bus station (in the middle of the map)(right 2 squares and down 1 to find bramble street)
Driving In
Due to the severe disruptions with the trains, we'll have several people wanting lifts from various stations across the land. Thus, if you are going or could go anywhere near a station, (anywhere in the country, not necessarily only those near Coventry) and have space in your car, please place a message on the forum and hopefully we'll be able to get everyone to and from the wedding without too much hassle. Many thanks in advance!

Trains! Don't ya just love them...
True to our normal degree of luck, we have found out that all the railway lines through Coventry are closed for that weekend. Thus, sorry to any people coming on the train but you are going to have some hassle. It doesn't matter which direction you are coming from, Coventry station is closed!
If anyone needs or at least would really like a lift from any station, please place a message on the forum
and we'll try and work something out.
- To those coming from London Euston:
You will have to get a Virgin train to Nuneaton and you'll be plonked on a bus from there.
Alternatively, for those with tight budgets and hence traveling via Silverlink, you'll be plonked on a bus from Rugby.
- To those coming from the south via the cross-country route (i.e up via Oxford, Leamington Spa etc) you'll have to de-train at Leamington Spa and you'll be bussed onwards.
- To those coming from Nottingham, you'll be bussed onwards from Nuneaton.
- If you are coming from Derby, you'll either be bussed from Birmingham International or Nuneaton, depending on your exact time of travel - it's probably best to go via Nuneaton - it'll be more reliable and less likely to involve changing at both Birmingham New Street for another train and then a bus from Birmingham International.
- To those coming from "The North", you'll be plonked on a bus either from Birmingham International or Birmingham New Street.
NB: Please ensure you get a direct bus to Coventry. They run two services to Coventry - a local one that stops everywhere and takes forever to get here, or a direct one that simply starts from Birmingham New Street, stops at Birmingham International, and goes onwards to Coventry directly. Make doubly sure you are on the correct bus or you will be phoning us up saying you'll be very late!
- Good luck, and Sorry!
Here's a few resources for you that may be of some help:
- I'd recommend looking up your journey using this online timetable:
It's nothing to do with National Rail, doesn't route you via trains that don't exist and along lines that are closed for engineering works, (as the National Rail one at www.nationalrail.co.uk/planmyjourney has done many times for me and many other disgruntled rail travelers!) and is actually helpful. It also gives you listings for all trains going from or to any stations, and allows you to set as many "via" stations as you want for your journey.
- Want yet another timetable? Ok! Believe it or not, the German Railways, Deutsche Bahn, provides an online timetable that includes all UK stations and timetable information. It also includes details of planned-in-advance engineering works, but not the majority of short-term alterations or "emergency engineering work". Make up your own mind! It's at http://www.bahn.de/app_internat.shtml.
- For those that don't know it, about the only useful thing on the National Rail site is their Service Alterations.
This lists recently imposed/emergency speed restrictions, broken down trains and general current disruptions around the network. It's not 100% accurate but tells you most of what is going on so you can plan accordingly.
- Live Departure boards!
Contrary to the information provided by National Rail, you can call up an online version of the departure boards for virtually any UK railway station, even if the station itself does not have departure boards fitted - it runs from the central computer that knows where all trains are so produces times for all stations.
Please note: This site is not an official one, instead being run by a "train enthusiast" (I'm sure many of you will call us "anoraks", and yes I (Phil) do consider myself to be a "train enthusiast"!) but is incredibly useful.
- Although, in theory there will be rail replacement busses to Coventry from wherever you get dumped, you may like to take matters into your own slightly more certain hands and book a National Express coach instead!
- Yet another alternative if you dont mind busses and you are travelling from Leamington Spa (quite possibly after having been dumped there off a train) is to use our local bus company, Travel West Midlands, route no 12 and co. Alternativly, for a much faster but more expensive option, Stagecoach, routes X16, X17 or X18 run from Leamington to Coventry.
Please note: These pages are being deliberately left virtually as they were at the time of the wedding, to preserve the good website we put together at the time, for posterity more than anything else! Whilst we are endeavouring to keep links etc up to date, if replacements can't be easily found, the link will simply be removed. This is why some things may say they are links but are links no longer. Also, some of the information given here may, therefore, be out of date.
