  • Security of Personal Information

When you first registered for the forum you were presented with choices regarding the availability of your email address to other members and the ability to send and receive private messages to other members; possibly you may have agreed to do this and indeed it is useful to be able to chat or exchange information away from the public side of the forum as, although it is necessary to register in order to be able to actually post, anyone with access to a PC can read what you have written.

Do remember to follow the same procedures on the forum as you would in real life, before ‘meeting’ other members by email or private messaging, get to know them on the ‘public’ side of the forum first. Not everybody is whom they might first appear to be, the internet confers the ability to create a false persona.

The way around this issue would be to deactivate PMs and emails by altering your own personal settings. If you then feel you wish to contact somebody privately, maybe first check out their threads and responses, so you can get a better idea of who they are and what they are about. You can do this by clicking on their profile name; and from there checking out their general demeanour and how they interact with other members.

If you are then happy with what you have read, you can then add them as contacts and chat away to your heart's content!

    To alter Privacy Settings

Click on the settings tab (top right of screen) and then click on ‘General Settings’; the options to alter whom you receive emails and private messages from will then be available.
