  • Entitlement to Legal aid?

The last few paragraphs in this news report annoyed me; not that he got 14 years but with a multi-million £ salary he was on legal aid????

I've asked the question in a sols and barristers FB group. How strange. Maybe he had to contribute, although saying that, surely he wouldn't be entitled to a penny.......

A barrister has come back with this:

"Quite probably his assets would have been frozen and so we had to pick up the tab (I don't know anything about this case, but that is common)."
      Another response

I'd imagine it's because his assets were probably frozen and so he couldn't pay for representation. The same thing happened with Op Cotton.
      And

Restraint Order, no doubt, but the greedy government won't allow access to the funds to allow him to pay his legal costs as they want in confiscation #robbingpetertopaypaul

That makes sense.....it seemed strange considering the savage cuts in the legal aid budget!
