    Hang in there!

I'm very much aware of the fact that despite the positive noises coming from all quarters one can never tell what the CPS will do. I'm terrified that I'm going to be one of these people who Rights Fighter has mentioned who get told their case will go nowhere and yet still end up behind bars. I don't know how I'll get through another 10/12 months of this if it goes to trial. I'm confident I could beat it in a courtroom but obviously that's something that I'm hoping will not happen. It's just horrendous.
    It's torture isn't it?
My husband hasn't been arrested so we don't have bail to worry about but we're just left in limbo!
We don't know whether to ask the OIC how the case is going or to leave it be!
It's nearly 5 months now and it's like carrying a bag of bricks around on our heads that we can't put down!
I really feel for you and can only pray that the CPS (whenever they do get to look at the cases) will see it's all rubbish and recommend NFA for us all!
If there is a charge then look at it as an opportunity to clear his name.
    Positive thinking and all that?
Anyway, sending hugs and keeping you company here in "limbo land"

      Hang on in there.
That's actually very reassuring, considering my legal rep is a guy who works on sexual offences every day all over the region and seems very much to know what he's talking about. Awful for those people of course but if I do get charged you can be darn sure I'll be getting a specialist.

YOH: Thankyou for the supportive words. Sending hugs back :-)

That's the spirit StressedNE!! Fight it all the way!
We would have to get legal aid as we have a young family and no assets! So I'm really hoping to find a specialist solicitor in our neck of the woods!
I can't imagine trying to fight a charge without someone who knows what they're doing. There's so much at stake.
Counting my blessings that we don't need one yet!
Keep up with the fighting talk though.
        It's good to hear!

In that case you won't need any help from us. Maybe you would post his name, solicitor's practice and contact details on this thread:

That way others will know where to go if they are in the NE

          Thanks for that

If I get NFA'd then I certainly will do. If not and it turns out he's wrong then I might not :-)

That's exactly how I was feeling up until the moment the charges were dropped. Fingers crossed, the same'll happen for you

Thanks Jittery. I can't recall the details of your case but I do feel that as mine is essentially a consent argument the waters might be a little more muddy.

Part of me is wondering if the CPS might charge just to see if they can scare me into a plea bargain, that would be an absolutely pointless waste of everyone's time because there's no way they'd get one, but one does wonder if they're predisposed towards charging people just to see if they can try it on a little. Probably overthinking it but it's impossible not to.
I'm still jumping out of my skin every time the phone rings or there's a knock at the door. Some bloody chugger came round three times today wearing similar clothing to a police uniform, absolutely frightened the life out of me the f***er!

I know what you mean! We've got a police officer living near us and whenever he comes home in his "work" vehicle we have to change our underwear! Stupid when you've done nothing wrong but it doesn't stop the panic feeling!
All I can say is we must stick to our guns. There's no plea bargaining when there's no crime.
Keep strong! We're all in this together for support.

It's actually sort of funny if you think about it. I bet you could spot people who've been falsely accused in the street because they're the only ones who jump three feet in the air when their mobile rings!

HUGE news! The complainant in my case has gotten in touch with the police and told them she doesn't want to pursue it any further. They're going round to take a retraction statement on Tuesday. I would imagine that even if the police decide to keep going with it this would put such a big hole in the CPS's case as to make it too impractical. My solicitor reckons it's 80% of the way to NFA. Not counting my chickens (dancing bananas) just yet but hopefully this will all be over within the week.

I'm off out for a drink

I'll hold fire on the bananas until you know for sure.

Hopefully the police will prosecute her IF she admits to lying, as opposed to not wanting to go through it all. Please do keep us updated!

Don't care either way at this point. As you can imagine I'm just wanting it to be over. Allowing myself a little bit of relief and happiness this evening. Lord knows I deserve it. First time in months I've not felt the sword of Damacles hovering over me

                              That's very hopeful!
Trying not to be too excited here but that's great news.
Let us know for sure as soon as you can!!!
