  • Just a thought

I've just read that if it is proved that someone has made up a false accusation of rape, then the potential sentence for perverting the course of justice is life. Much as I would welcome a move to deter false accusers, this seems to be going to ridiculous extremes.

What is wrong with this country's justice system? There seems to be no sense of proportion and things seem to be getting worse.

Could false accusers not just be given say a 6 month sentence or fined. Far from discouraging others from coming forward it would only deter the false accusers; the genuine victims would then be taken more seriously.

Most people who have [genuinely] been falsely accused of abuse - and their loved ones - those who have had to live through the nightmare - would like their accusers to serve the same time as they would have done, had they been convicted of the crimes they had been falsely accused of.

This won't happen. The reason being, that people who have been genuinely abused, will possibly not report the offences against them because they fear they will not be believed.

And on and on it will go.

Some genuine victims will not get justice because false accusers will continue to get away with their lies.

Most of them can not be proved to be lying about it as well he said she said ! Like the woman who made an allegation about me has bin seen on a dating website 6 week after the so call attack to me and most people this show what she saying is most likely false but it dose not prove it

Unless your accuser said that she will never be able to go out and face the world again / never have a relationship and would never look for one, registering on a dating site doesn't prove she's lying. All it demonstrates is that she's moving on from whatever she's moving on from.

yup! I must admit, I've been mulling over what I'd do if I ruled the judicial world. All I could come up with is if it's a he said she said, I wouldn't make a descision myself, I'd drop it in front of a group of people to decide with others trying to establish who is most likely to be telling the truth!

I'm thinking if the fa CAN be proved to be lying (I accept admission is probably the only way) then life i.e. perverting the course of justice, seems to me a bit severe.

Most people convicted of PCJ (those who have made false allegations) tend to get a slap on the wrist: I think 3 years is the max I've heard about. Some just get a fine.

Please don't waste your pity on those who lie about such serious matters - they make it a thousand times worse for the genuine victims.

Hi RF, I know, I've been told by my friends not to waste pity on my fa. Unfortunately it's just something I do. I can be magnanimous at the moment mind, may change if I have to spend thousands on a court case or the worst happens!
