  • Shocking anecdote from a defence barrister

    Hi all

Thought I'd share this anecdote with you. Spoke to my family law solicitor the other day and we discussed the events that led up to my nfa and the subject in general. She said her friend was a defence barrister of 9 years experience and had seen countless cases of this type in that time. The barrister said that in her opinion, in all that time maybe one or two of those claims were genuine, this is over a period of 9 years!!!

I wonder how history will look at this modern day witch hunt and feel very sorry for genuine victims who appear to be in a tiny minority.

I think in days or, more realistically, years to come, there will be so many people who have been through the whole ordeal or will know someone who has, that the pendulum will swing the other way.

The way this has been whipped up in the media and by politicians too frightened to say anything, will increase greedy FAs at worst and/or false memory syndrome.

I heard someone actually say the other day that they felt r*pd because her then b/f said he loved her but they split two weeks after sleeping together and if she had known that was going to happen, she wouldn't have slept with him. Really had to bite my tongue.

How interesting............ it's a shame the OIC's don't seem to believe this. Or perhaps they do know but they have their targets to hit by obtaining convictions regardless of innocence.

FA's are prevalent which is inevitable if compensation is the carrot. And obviously the scruples of an individual who has no integrity and will go to these lengths for their own reasons.

All baffling. Apart from the sheer lack of concern for the the falsely accused their families and the devastation wreaked, the thing that amazes me is that no-one seems to be asking 'How much is all this costing?' . The SS recently took away a specialised bed and wheelchair from a friend of mine who is paraplegic because having reassessed him (total household income 2 adults + 1 child = 25K ? ) they found that SS shouldn't be financing that equipment . Cost too much. What hypocrisy!

No one wants to listen to these statistics though and it's about time they did,our Sol told us he had dealt with 14 cases of FA and not one of them had any foundation.

14 may not seem a lot to people but 14 lives potentially ruined is 14 too many.

Absolutely - but it seems the police are not bothered about innocent peoples' lives. The Crown Persecution Service are committed to 'believing' any allegation regardless of credibility. This is a result of police not paying enough attention in the past to the genuine victim.

The many false accusers are doing much harm to the genuine cases.
