My god I have been fighting an historical false accusations of rape since 2009 and the day I am in court and found guilty I find this site. I am to be sentenced on Tuesday and I am looking at 7-8 years.
The allegations where made in 2009 by my sister who alleged she was raped in 1987 she did not go to the police until 2013. I am looking at my first visit to prison and I am scared as hell. I was seriously let down by my barrister who pulled out 3 days before we were in court my solicitor managed to get me a Barrister at the last minute he did the best he could under the circumstances considering he only got the papers on the Friday and I was in court on the Monday.
I have read many good and helpful posts on here and so wished I had found this Years ago.
Any tips or useful advice would be greatly appreciated

There should be a thread on here relating to the 'nasty bag'. This is what you would take with you at sentence, otherwise you would go in with nothing. I will try to find it for you

      Hi Redscouse

I'm so sorry to hear about your case. Have you discussed whether there are any grounds for appeal?

Initially, you need to be prepared for sentencing and sorting out anything on the outside that needs sorting. After that, keep racking your brains.

I hope you have some loved ones to support you.

Not comprehensive but a start. I am sure we had a link here that listed everything that should be taken, also on the 'other' private forum.

        Underwear
outwear (nothing in black and white) jeans; tops; shoes; trainers
        postage stamps; stationery
address book (not with the wire backing - all card and no sharp edges) - put all important addresses and telephone numbers in it
repeat prescription to show the doctor when you get there and current medication (will be taken off you at first)
        paperback books

Money - about £100 if you can.

Initially you may well not be able to ring loved ones on the out but when you are, if you have money in the prison bank account and in 'spends' you will be able to ring them eventually, and write.

All of the above may not be given to you straight away as it will all be searched.

Do you know whether there are grounds to appeal the convictions? You are entitled to a document called "Advice on Appeal" once it has been written by counsel. Badger the sol until you get it. Even if it is negative it may help another sol to help appeal from that, as it should outline roughly what happened

            Help

Thank you for your advice, As for appeal I believe I do have a cause for appeal but my Barrister believes I don't.

My sister claimed she was groomed from the age of 7-8 when I would have been 13-14 (1974) then nothing happened till she was 16 and I would have been 23-24 (1984) when she claims she was raped. Some members of my family did not want to get involved but were interviewed by the police and my solicitor was informed that they would not be called as prosecution witness's. One of the parts of my bail was no contact with family members which I stuck by. Last week end after the prosecution and defence cases had been closed. I had contact with my brother who stated that the earlier claim of grooming at age 7-8 could not have happened, Because my defence had finished my Barrister did not call my Brother. I believe that if my brother had given evidence then the charge of assault aged 7-8 would have been a not guilty which would have made the prosecution's case of grooming which lead to the alleged rape incorrect, Thus finding the rape allegation without foundation as there is no evidence just her word against mine.

Right now my head is cabbaged. I have four days to sort my life out. I have a mortgage and I don't know what to do with the contents of my apartment. I resigned from my job today after 15 years which is heart-breaking.

I wish I had found this forum months ago since the allegation was made in 2009 and since the police involvement in 2013 I have not had a clue where to turn for help and information other than my solicitor who had been great but they are limited to what they can offer. Sometimes just having a place to vent your fears and anguishes is all you need.

Sentence is Tuesday. I have a meeting tomorrow with my Solicitor to find out exactly why my Barrister does not think I have a chance of appeal. It is difficult getting a response I live in the North West as is my Solicitor but my Barrister who was "last minute.com" his chambers are in London.
