Hi I can't believe I am on this site. My husband is charged with historic abuse against a stepdaughter. I need to get a solicitor. It is totally unbelievable and I. Am a 100% sure it is false. Can anyone recommend Chris Saltrese from personal experience as he seems to be an expert in this field.

    Hi there.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I have heard nothing but positive things about Chris and his team on the forum. Just so you know, I believe Chris only takes private clients and not legal aid.

When I was researching what to do, I wanted to ensure I found the right person. They will be your gateway between the courts and your barrister. Again, a barrister will have worked on a number of different case types but try to find one who is familiar with these allegations.

I actually found the barrister chambers I wanted to represent me and then asked them on the solicitor I should use.

Again cost varies per case, but I'm paying privately and it cost me 12k in total. Please bare in mind mine is around a 4 day trial and I have a QC.

Stay strong for your husband, he will be feeling low... But you can and will get through it.

    Good luck

    IG X

Thank you so much we are out of our minds with worry. Is the barrister extra on top of the 12K. Was that privately. Thanks again for your speedy reply

Chris Saltrese does have an excellent record in FA's. He only does trial privately but does appeals on Legal Aid.
Costs vary between solicitors and barristers depending on the complexity of the case and the amount of work involved. I've been quoted between £12,000 and £42,000 (I'm not entitled to Legal Aid).
Have a look at this link to the specialist solicitors' thread. http://www.daftmoo.org.uk/mooforum/s...ist-solicitors There are posts about ones who are great and ones to avoid.

Chris cannot accept legally aided trials as LA just does not pay for the amount of work he and the QC or other barristers he uses, puts in. He does have an excellent track record I have to say. I've known many people through the years, instruct him for trial and they've always without exception have been very impressed with his knowledge, care and consideration. Plus the amount he charges includes the cost of the QC/barrister. I can't give any quotes as to costs as it really depends on where the trial will be held and the amount of work that needs to be done.

Ring his office in Southport and chat to him and ask. I know he sometimes allows payments by installments too. I do know for a fact that he charges far less than many other solicitors.

If you cannot afford to pay privately and are eligible for legal aid, check out the thread that lists solicitors and barristers who are recommended (and be aware of those who are not recommended). Where would any trial be heard? Usually it's where the alleged assaults took place. The county will do.

              Advice

Thanks for the advice everyone, we are just devastated that this can happen to people and to be charged with something like this has made us both ill. I am sure this site will help us to get through this ordeal as we just don't know where to start to get a good solicitor but Chris Saltrese does seem to be mentioned a lot

We are currently going through this with my dad being accused. It's just awful that a person can do this and tear our lives apart like this. We are all sick with worry. It's so hard when you know something is not true but how can you prove it? My dad is accused of something 10 years ago. If it were last week or something he could prove where he was and his innocence but now 10 years on it's her word against his. Waiting for news of what's gonna happen to my dad and the embarrassment of people where we live all knowing is stressful.

Hi that is how I feel how can you prove something like this hasn't happened, when it's many years ago and it seems like it's such a hot topic. I am struggling to cope and am just so desperate to get the best possible defence but where do you start with something like this.

Check out the thread with recommended sols and barristers (be aware that some are NOT recommended but posted there to let others know of other people's negative experiences of them).

If you are charged it means that the CPS are 51% certain they will get a conviction - BUT - don't panic - there is a long way to go and a lot can happen between now and the trial including it getting thrown out before - although it is rare. it doesn't mean they have a lot of evidence it just means they have enough for now and will hunt high and low to get more by whatever means they can.....They are indeed very selective as to what they read, who they interview etc and if they think anyone has information which may help you they probably won't interview them. Don't give them any info they haven't asked for and don't talk to them at all without a solicitor with you. Stay strong......
