Take on legal aid cases. I wasn't impressed when I was raising questions for my son because they only wanted to deal with him but were fine when I emailed from my son's email address!!
They work closely with Harpreet Sandhu of No 5 Chambers http://www.no5.com/barristers/barris...-singh-sandhu/ He is a charming man who put us at ease as soon as we met him and was excellent at the trial.

Hi Lukas, just wanted to reiterate how much I would recommend Sussex Defence Solicitors, and William England (barrister). He is a truly fantastic man, and the way his mind works in the court room is just mind-boggling. Good luck.

I thought I'd done this already - must have posted it somewhere! Maybe someone more tech savvy could put it in the right place. It's Tim walker at Sonn, Macmillan, Walker on +44 (0) 20 7377 8889

Felicity Gerry comes highly recommended. Available nationwide. She represented a co-defendant in my case and she was brilliant from the one day I saw her in action before the case was dismissed! Google her,she has her own website. She is a QC and has good knowledge of DNA/forensics should your case require. Doubt she does legal aid work though.

Not really sure about this SOL!

Hi my son has been falsely accused back at the end of Feb..he was formerly charged we instructed a firm called Sonn Macmillan Walker to represent, he has been bailed twice now and is awaiting the third bail date on 23rd Sep...my question is..we havent had any contact with the sol apart from me calling them..is this because we are legal aidand not cash payers? nothing appears to be moving..is this usual? no statements have been taken for a defence from others that could help..is this because the sol is waiting to see what the CPS are going to do? i feel we are really in the dark and my son has had a nervous breakdown due to all this..i dont want to be a pest to the sol but dont know what to do do i instruct another sol? this firm came highly recommended and are in the legal top 500...confused!!!

                    Hi Caroline

I'm so sorry to hear your nightmare is still ongoing. My son was accused and voluntarily attended an interview with Tim Walker from Son Macmillan Walker present. My experience was excellent and I felt very supported, although I am used to dealing with solicitors at work so I did expect to have to chase them up - I think they are all very busy juggling priorities.

Some of those who post on here have a lot of legal knowledge, either from managing their own cases or being in the professional of defending people. I am sure they can provide better advice than I can. However, what I think I know....

Because I engaged SMW to attend the interview with us, I paid cash upfront for this, my son was never arrested or charged, I'm not 100% on how the process plays out.

Has your son been arrested then bailed or been charged than bailed? I though once charged you get a court date and the defense starts work. I think on legal aid that the solicitor only gets paid to represent your son when he is charged and you have to wait to see what happens. ie which court they will use and what he is being accused of etc so they can prepare the defense. Although our case didn't get there, when I asked the solicitors the question about collecting witness statements which would help my son's defense, I think they said they need to see who the police are calling then prepare to cross examine them, if there are people who the police should have spoken to or people who you suspect would have given evidence which supported your son, when they prepare for the court case they include these people.

From my opinion, I wanted to be sure everything which supported my son's innocence was collated, so I understand your frustration. I was told to make notes of everything I found out along the way, if it went to court it would be considered for use by the defense. I did recommend Son Macmillan Walker from my own experience - I felt it was money well spent as they avoided my son having a record of an arrest - I'm really sorry if you feel they are letting you down. Maybe someone else can provide advice on how it all works with defense solicitors?

                                Solicitor

When my son was called in to answer for a FA we used the duty solicitor who turned out to be realy good.

He listened to my son and then emphasised to the DC certain points to get them across.

When we offered to pay to get a good serivce he refused as our son was entitled to legal aid.

I have spoken to Robert Corbin and he said it was ok to put their details on the forum.
