  • Pre-trial defence conference

    Hello.

I've got the conference next week with my defence team; solicitor and barrister. What should I expect from this experience? I notice most people have this meeting a week or two before the trial however my trial is not until June, so seems premature.

Hi there nothing is set in stone. Different defence teams will have different procedures. OH Had a couple of meetings with the team in the few months prior to trial. Also they would also answer any queries, question by email and phone so never be afraiid to contact. You will run through everything at meeting what evidence you have, what is still outstanding. We found the meetings very reassuring and helpful. SO try not to be anxious, it may help to write down any questions before your meetingas sometimes things go,out of your head. Prior to meeting we had done a timeline and we went through that which high lighted a few extra lines of enquiry in order to have the best possible defence at trial. Staystrongx

Just to update, I had my meeting with my barrister and solicitor yesterday, after a series of postponements due to a murder trial my barrister was defending on. I feel a lot more confident going forward after meeting with them and my faith in defence team is great. I served them with a detailed timeline of events prior to the meeting which received praised and they commented showed proactiviness on my part. So thank you to everyone on here for recommending I complete one, I'm going to meet with them again before the trial, however until then the waiting game continues.

        Hi there
That sounds very positive. I Found once the timeline was done it pulls the defence case together and definitely was crucial At trial. Its also good that you have confidence in your defence Barrister and solicitor as they will be able to guide you through the court process and trial. Unfortunately no way around the waiting game We found just living one day at a time helped and trying to have some 'normal' time at the weekends helped as nothing would change over weekend. Keep strong and you will get through this x
