  • 1 in 13 convictions

(Posted on old forum on Saturday, July 10, 2004)

How come 2/3 of this board are innocent, I never done it, they all say that, my theory is no smoke without fire, 95% of men accused of this vile horrible offence are in my eyes guilty, and yes I am a man of 40, and I say all these rapists say in court she did consent, the hardest thing to prove? the victims word against the vile beast. I would without a doubt burn a rapist, no problem, put it in a cage, throw petrol on it, throw a match and there you go, open a beer.

Because the guilty ones (and a few of the innocent) are in prison and don't have access to the internet.
Try doing a bit of research on false allegations eg Kanin - Archives of Sexual Behaviour Vol 23 and FBI Behavioural Sciences - The Mc. Dowell report.
I am a man of 50, and have every sympathy for all victims of crime, and perhaps a bit better informed.
Drink beer with a bit less gas!!!!

If you had read the thread I am the man of 50 replying to the idiot of 40. We are two separate people. Think a bit more wisely before shooting your mouth off hey. By the way I agree with you entirely about false allegations however research in cases of false reports of adult rape have demonstrated that financial gain is not the greatest issue. The false allegations researched showed they fell relatively equally into three categories: Attention seeking, Revenge and Alibi.
The first two are self explanatory, Alibi may need some clarification. Example: Woman goes for night out, has casual sex with a stranger, gets home late, fearing the reaction of her husband/partner, says she has been raped. Sounds far fetched, you would be very surprised just how common.

The guilty people are not in prison as most trials very rarely end up with a conviction. I have worked with the Metropolitan Police Sapphire Unit, and have spoken to many people working within the court system and the police force, I also run a group for survivors of rape. I have currently 132 members and of them two have succeeded in convicting their perpetrators.
I think at the end of the day the jury should be shown each side of the story and there are always two sides, and no assumptions about either character should be made, I wonder also if new techniques such as hypnosis, lie detector tests and possibly psychics may be able to help shed some light on what went on, it is really though up to the jury and remember that these members of the jury have never met either of the people involved in the crime. If a wrongful conviction is made the person is welcome to appeal.

I try and say this without being disrespectful but I can?t put it any other way. Wake up and smell the coffee u silly narrow minded fool. Although I agree with what you are saying, I also see the fact that people do get falsely accused and it is a very common thing but because of our ridiculous legal system and society?s ways, if you?re accused then that?s it unless the accuser IF FALSELY accused ends up telling the truth. It is a very hard topic 2 discuss but b4 we can discuss it we need 2 look at the big picture and not the one that society accepts. After all if society?s thoughts are so right, then why is society a shambles like it is, you cant even walk down the street and stop and talk to any strangers anymore JUST THINK ABOUT IT ! ! !

If your theory is ' no smoke without fire' then not only are you completely ignorant of the injustices that families are suffering daily as a result of false allegations but you are also moronic beyond belief! I suppose you also believe that the increase in allegations of sexual abuse over the last 20 years is because victims are more ready to come forward? WRONG!! There has always been sexual abuse since the dawn of time and it is not on the increase, it's merely that society has decided that adults have the monopoly on telling lies! Financial compensation is a reason for lying but not the only one - pure maliciousness is a common one as is the practise of pointing the finger at someone else to take the heat of you if you're in any kind of trouble. I know that child abuse happens because I've experienced but I've also experience the devastation caused to my family when my husband was falsely accused in 2003. Perhaps I can make a suggestion? If you don't have anything constructive to say.....say nothing!

                    Angry Male,

You don't know what you are talking about. I have represented dozens of falsely accused males and all those I have represented have been cleared by overwhelming evidence that these guys could not have possibility committed the alleged offences. The problem is very poor representation to start with. So I would strongly suggest before you make your comments you do your research as I have been doing mine for the past 16 almost 17 years.

I am not saying for one moment those who have been truly raped should not come forward, but surely it is better to protect the innocent than rather convict the guilty!!

I would rather the guilty were convicted actually.

Only way to do that is to convict even more people who are innocent as well.

I am all for making it easier to prove what happened, BUT the sad fact is, as with all crimes, it is not always the right person who becomes convicted.

Hello there you seem to have misunderstood my post, my last reply was in regard to a message from another member who said

"but surely it is better to protect the innocent than rather convict the guilty!! "

My point was to say that i preffered the guilty were convicted, the person i assume was supposed to write "rather than convict the innocent," but actually wrote the word guilty instead, your message is relating to another matter entierly of which i am not talking about.
People who are guilty should be convicted, and i dont really know what you are talking about when you say that the only way to convict more people is to convict innocent people as well, as this does not make any sense, those who are innocent are innocent, those who are guilty go to prison, im not implying otherwise, and still dont know what your message is in relation to, sorry.

This is obviously an old thread but just to put things right, JK did not have internet access direct, nor does any other prisoner in UK, he just had very good and well appointed friends outside who did his internet access for him.
Use a bit of common sense Dan and stop misleading the public.

Hope your past and those words don't come back to bite you...can you remember what you were doing 20/25 years ago? More important if someone comes forward and says you raped them at that time, can you prove otherwise? Can you even remember where or what you were doing last year, last monthk or even last week? There is always some twisted individual who is prepared to make a false statement for a cash payout. I think everyone would agree that rapists need harsh treatment, but whilst this Government keeps using tax payers money to reward liars and cheats with cash handouts it is difficult to identify the evil from the poor patsy...........
