    pm messaging

    Moo
Like the idea of disabling PM messages for new users, but it also means mods can't contact new members either.
Just had to contact a new member to let them know I've had to move their post, and the pm facility is not there in their profile.
Could it be changed so that for new members they can just receive pms from mods/contacts at least?
    btw, that's pm's not pms.

There are times when somebody new-ish comes onto the board and I feel that I can help them but would need to know their whereabouts or ask them for a landline number in order to talk to them direct.

If mods cannot PM new members then that would mean that I cannot either. Just a thought. Unless I email the Moos and they pass on the message - maybe that could work?

I noticed when I tried to pm the new member earlier there was no pm facility for them, but there was an "email" button. I wonder if that automatically sends to their email account then it might suffice for all and RF.
I'm guessing, but Moo may want to confirm if that's the intention?

I've looked into this. There is currently no way to enable receipt of PMs without being able to send PMs. It's a global enable/disable only.

I'm hunting through for a modification that may enable this but I can't see anything at the mo.

The email function does indeed work even with the PM disabled, but, as the only way they then have to reply is email, it does reveal your email address to the user, which you may not want to do.

I'm not sure if there is an easy fix for this but I'll keep my eye on the mods forums.

Just a thought, is it worth setting up a shared hotmail email account in the name of People's Concerns or something similar?
If we all had the password for it, then it could be used by all of us to send and receive if anyone didn't want their personal email addresses going out.
I could set that up if anyone thinks it's viable.

I'm concerned that RF's email could end up being abused if its address went out.

Friday, it's a permanent visual change to the site.

I like the idea of a shared email address - I could set up a daftmoo one easily. The issue would be to work out how to make it easy to send from this email - I'll have to see if there is some way I can integrate it with the forum.

I'll have a look through the available add-ons or the available template mods and see what there is.

                  It's a permanent change. sorry!
If you like, feel free to have a look through the available styles on vb.org, and let me know if you can see any that you like the look of. I'll happily install a few. I don't want to make it too many, because more styles mean more maintenance, but I'm quite happy with up to say, 5 different styles. Have a look through and pick out something that you like:

                    Love the signature!!!

ON the vBulletin site I run the members could actually choose which backgrounds they want to use - I say "could" as I am too tight to upgrade but that's because it's not a proppa forum but only used to discuss appeal material in private.

The basic idea I had in mind was a simple email address with the admin team having the login and password.
The only problem I couldn't get around was if one person was in it sending/receiving, then no one else could get in at the same time, and I don't know what Hotmail would make of a second attempt at logging in.
The only way around was a page in Mod Chat to say when someone's going in/out of the email. Not ideal.

Thanks! Blame LS for the sig - He suggested it and I couldn't resist!

I have to install the backgrounds and then users can change to whichever they wish.

There's no limit on the number if styles I can install, but some add-ons/modifications require edits to be done in the styles, so, if I've got 5 styles, I'd have to do the same edit 5 times. I'm happy to do that, as it makes the site more fun and user-friendly, but I think 5 is about the most I'm prepared to do.

That's no problem - I can set up an @daftmoo.org.uk account and several people can use it simultaneously quite happily.

That sounds fantastic and just the ticket.

email address sounds like a good idea. hotmail doesn't do anything crazy if you try log in from more than one location it just has a little yellow banner telling you to login again so you would know if some one else was trying to log in so if the daftmoo email doesn't work out (i am in awe of your computer abilities!) then hotmail is viable.

i am slowly getting used to the new background and to be honest my inconvienence in getting used to a new background is nothing in comparison to what you would have to do to remedy it. i was only asking because like RFs site i am a member of a vbulletin one where you can change the background but i have never been able to work out how so if it was something simple i would have done it but certainly don't want to be creating more work for you.
