Tuesday: Shrewsbury to Llanaber

We got up for breakfast and were told that they had run out of fruit and yoghurt so we had to be really unhealthy instead (What a shame)and we got a huge cooked breakfast with a sausage that was even too big for Phil (i know, don't faint). We then dashed off to the station (as usual) with a very hot Phil stopping for a drink on the way. The train to Tywyn was direct although it split in 2 at Dovey junction with once half going to Aberystwyth.

We got off at Tywyn and walked back to the Tallylyn railway. After we got tickets, postcards and photos with a steam engine sorted, we got on the train. It was a lovely ride up the valley -lots of woods and nice views - we could see out to the sea at one point and there were a couple of nice waterfalls too. At the station before the end of the line, we were told that we might not get any further because "something had fallen off the train" Further investigation by Phil determined that it was something off the brake assembly. They did sort it out eventually and we got to the top station. We had a late (3:30pm) lunch (acquired form co-op earlier). The next train arrived fairly soon because it had caught up most of the time that had been lost by the breakdown.

We trundled back to the station with the waterfalls where we got off and had a walk around the woods. We tried to get back to the previous (and very minor) request stop but by the time we had found the way, it was too far and we didn't really want to miss the last train back. So we just went as far as the waterfall which was very nice anyway.

When we got back we posted some postcards so they would get the special railway stamp (One to us of course) Then we had 3 hours to kill in Tywyn so we wandered into the village and had a silly game of crazy golf. After that we went and sat on the beach for a while and let the world know that we were still alive and talking to each other. Once we were sure the world was happy, we went and got fish and chips and caught the train to Llanaber, which is in the middle of nowhere on the welsh coast. In the moonlight it was lovely so we walked across the railway (yes, it was allowed) and sat on the rocks for a few minutes cuddling and watching the sea and stars before wandering up to the farmhouse. It was beautiful apart from the insects that seemed to find Phil quite tasty. :-(

It was a lovely old place run by a nice couple who didn't mind us being late and even made us a much needed cup of tea. We stayed in a lovely room in the converted barn. The shower was a proper one (not one of those attached to the bath taps) and the bed was so comfy that we only just got up in time for the 10am train the next morning.
